According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), food production in Sub-Saharan Africa grew in 2008 for the first time in decades. Production increased by 3.5 percent, which was higher than the 2 percent increase in the continent’s population.

Just as with cuisines from other regions of the world, certain ingredients and staples are prevalent in African cuisine. The ingredients include vegetables and fruits, meat products, spices and grains. We will give you a brief history and more details of each of these ingredients in future articles.
